Spurs Deserved Title Race To Go To The Wire

Well, it’s that strange time of the year where tiredness, mental fatigue and scrapping for your life or using a squad that is down to the bare bones may see you achieve your aim or be an also-ran.

So it’s time to look at the remaining fixtures for the top 6 and bottom 5 and decide who’s getting into the Champions League and who’s missing out?

Spurs’ loss at West Ham of course means the title could be wrapped up by Friday, leaving a weird two day lull before Spurs get the chance to respond on Sunday which is a huge shame for me. Spurs have provided the highlights of the season with their young manager and players playing some gorgeous football…

who deserved the race to go at least to the wire.

By reading that last sentence then you may well not be guessing too much that I feel the title will be wrapped up by Friday. Yup, if I’m right it most definitely will be.

Chelsea. 87 points

Boro (H) 3 points
WBA (A) 3 points

Champions, it’s that simple, so with the greatest respect to Watford and Sunderland, you guys don’t matter for now!

A cracking season, with the side growing in maturity by the game. Let’s hope they can translate some of that into the Champions League.

I can’t see City losing another game and I can see them rattling the goals in their final 3. Jesus may well save them, and his added impetus may well come at the right time. Even Vinny K is back amongst the goals.

Time will tell whether the results recently against Southampton and Palace at home will be a deal breaker but additions are needed and mentality needs to change if the Redmen are going to challenge beyond Autumn again next season.

This season they’ll get away with it though, a warm welcome back to Europe’s premier club competition for England’s most successful European Club side.

Two tricky away fixtures ahead for the Gunners against sides who they don’t get past very easily at all against away from the Emirates. Southampton haven’t lost in the league against the Gunners since 2003 and Stoke are unbeaten in their last six in the Potteries against the Gunners.

I know Arsenal will have had a great win against United and that Top 4 race to gear them up against two sides with little to play for but Wenger will be aware that St. Mary’s and The Britannia haven’t been kind for a number of years to his sides, hence a point a piece. If I’m right, Arsenal’s long record of Champions League qualification is at an end.

A lot is going to depend on the Europa League progression in the coming weeks but I’m giving United the benefit of the doubt and to get to the Final which means a May 24th date in Sweden, only three days after the final Premier League game of the season against Palace, so expect plenty of changes, resting and focus elsewhere.

Spurs at White Hart Lane and the Lilywhites’ grand finale at the old ground will be tough as will Saints away but I’d expect that game to be far enough away from the Europa League final for players to be playing for places.
