Seeley’s Selections – Argentina v Paraguay

Argentina take on Paraguay in the Copa America semi-final in the early hours of Wednesday morning and in a tournament of upsets so far, I just can’t see them continuing in Concepción.

Hosts and our pre-tournamet selection, Chile, await for the winner and the whole football world wants Argentina to make the dream final which I think they will.

Despite the Argentinians not performing anywhere near their best in this competition so far, they really should get the better of their opponents and are a very confident selection for me at the 4/9 with BoyleSports.

The two met in the group opener and Argentina raced into a 2-0 lead only to be pegged back in a surprise 2-2 draw. Ever since that awful second half display, La Albiceleste have been a very different side.

Gerardo Martino learnt from the defensive errors in that one and they didn’t conceded a goal in their next three matches.

Despite the Paraguayans scoring twice in the opener, I really can’t see them scoring in this and an Argentina win to nil is strongly advised at Evens with BoyleSports.

Lionel Messi has had a very quiet tournament by his incredibly high standards, but his best performance was in the first half against Paraguay where he scored and at 5/2 on him to open the scoring in this semi-final, that looks a bet for me.

I think this could be a very comfortable night for the Argies and I also believe that this is the perfect stage for Messi to shine against a very tired Paraguayan side. The Little Maestro is 17/4 to score two or more goals and a massive 20/1 to grab a hat-trick. With more shots on target than any other player at this Copa America, averaging 5.5 shots per game, it’s just a matter of time before they fly in and this could be that time.

Paraguay produced one of their nation’s best ever performances in the quarter-final beating Brazil on penalties and with the draw already against Argentina, this is their best ever showing at a major tournament. The problem for their backers (if there are any?) at the 8/1 with BoyleSports, is that they looked out on their feet in the Brazilian clash which is not something you want to be suffering with when you are taking on the Argentinians as you will be doing a lot of running without the ball.

Messi and co will be out for revenge which is a very scary thought and they will also want to set a marker down to the Chileans that they mean business.

I think the real Argentina will turn up for this semi-final and I believe it might be a game too far for Paraguay.

I like the 14 time South American champions to make it through to yet another final with a comprehensive 4-0 battering which is a lovely 16/1 with BoyleSports.
