Broberg To Bring Home The Danish Bacon

This is the second staging of the Made In Denmark, the first European Tour event to be held in Denmark since the Nordic Open, with defending champion Marc Warren the antepost favourite.

The Tournament
The prize fund is a modest one, and coming just a few days after the season’s last Major, it’s no surprise that most of the European elite have given it a miss, although many top Scandinavian players will be supporting the event and Marc Warren returns to defend his title.

The Course
The Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort, Aalborg, is the biggest golf resort in Northern Europe, but the course doesn’t look too challenging. It isn’t particularly long, the rough is not demanding, the fairways are reasonably wide and there aren’t too many hazards. It isn’t a coastal venue, but the course is exposed, with very few trees, so that could make things tricky if the wind gets up.

In The Bunker

Defending champion Marc Warren is the short-priced antepost favourite, but I’m not keen to back him at 10/1.

Last year he came into this tournament in strong form after a third at the Irish Open and a top twenty at the PGA Championship, but he didn’t make much impact on the other side of the Atlantic last week, and given that he’s also a much shorter price than twelve months ago, I’ll be looking elsewhere this week.

Recommended Bets
In 2012 Kristoffer Broberg earned his European Tour card after playing just five events on the Challenge Tour, and although he hasn’t yet fulfilled his potential, time is on his side. Until the middle of June his results this season had not been great, but his form has improved since, and he’s managed four top-fifteen finishes in seven outings.

That sort of consistency could be enough in a weak field and at 25/1, he’s a decent bet to bag his first Tour victory.

Robert Karlsson is another of the Scandinavian players who dominate the antepost betting and although not an obvious contender, he could be worth taking a chance on at big odds. He hasn’t won a Tour event since 2010 and has a string of missed cuts to his name this year, but he was last seen finishing second at the Paul Lawrie Match Play, his best result since making the top ten at the Dubai Tour Championship in November. Back him at 25/1 to build on that in Denmark.

After a couple of years in the wilderness, Bradley Dredge has returned to the European Tour this season, and although he has managed just one top ten so far, this could be the event in which he returns to winning ways. Last year he came to Aalborg in no sort of form but produced his best performance of the season to finish second behind Marc Warren. At odds of 40/1, he looks an interesting bet this week.
