Mick The Man In Patrickswell

It’s the last hurrah this weekend for coursing enthusiasts up and down the length and breadth of the country.

Mick The Man In Patrickswell
It doesn’t feel like that long ago we were looking up the draw for Kilflynn and Liscannor, where has the time gone? There is a few juicy buckles throughout the entire card at the Irish Cup, Patrickswell is without doubt the place to be!

Irish Cup – First Quarter
Skellig Shane was the first of the big guns to come out of the hat. He was pencilled in as a potential Irish Cup winner following his fine performance in the Kingdom Cup in Tralee over the Christmas period.

He topped the betting for the Champion Stakes in Clonmel but went down at the first hurdle to the eventual winner Howdododo. Shane meets the highly thought of Ashmore Rocket in the opening course, he should have too much early speed for his opponent.

The stand out course in the first round of the Irish Cup is without doubt Octane Wonder and Kyle Mozart.

These two have crossed paths twice before and the score remains 2-0 to Octane.

Both times they have met have been in finals so can the result change because they are meeting in the first round? I don’t think so! Yes I think it will be a very close buckle but Octane can just edge it.

Octane Wonderful
Of the pups in this quarter Killacolla Jet looks the pick of them. Beaten by Wiseguy Mark in the second round of the Derby, he should be fresh coming to Limerick. Jet should win his first course and go on to meet Wallace Banner in round two.

It’s interesting to note that of the three runners the Matthews team have in the Irish Cup, Brendan has decided to nominate Banner. This team don’t often make mistakes! This could be a tip in itself and the quarter looks to be between Octane and Banner.

Selection : Octane Wonder
