Another Double On The Cards For Elliott

Gordon Elliott took home both graded races from Navan last week and there’s every chance he could repeat that feat at Naas this afternoon.

Strength In Numbers
Elliott runs three of the eight runners in the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle and although BoyleSports ambassador Robbie Power will fancy his chances on Jessica Harrington’s Impact Factor, the recent course and distance winner Cartwright is preferred.

Cartwright was second on Thyestes Chase day at Gowran Park but pulled well clear of Whisperinthebreeze that day and then he went one better next time out at Naas when pulling clear up the hill to record a 16-length victory.

This will pose a much stiffer test now but if Whisperinthebreeze can go and win the opening race on the card today it would be a nice form boost for Cartwright backers.

Impact Factor bumped into a couple of good ones before opening his account and has to have a chance. While Hardline impressed at Punchestown and Makitorix can’t be ruled out with Willie Mullins predicting a bold showing but

Cartwright really caught the eye the way he finished out his maiden win and a repeat of that might just be good enough.

Doctor To Go In Again
Elliott then saddles three of the five in the two-mile chase, a race won last year by Alisier D’irlande but he’s a 14/1 shot this afternoon and would look likely to succumb to more in form rivals, the pick of which is Doctor Phoenix.

A very, very impressive winner of a handicap at Fairyhouse last time, his handicap mark has been subsequently reassessed and leaves him fairly well in for the conditions of this race. Stable companion Ball D’arc is a fairly consistent performer at this level and will probably pose the biggest threat to the selection with American Tom next in the betting and hard to fancy after being fairly beaten on his last two starts in similar company.

Doctor Phoenix will have to prove the handicappers’ judgement to be correct but…

on the basis of that Fairyhouse win it is hard to argue with.
