Haggas To Make Headway At Lingfield

The Beast from the East has caused absolute havoc but those struggling with cabin fever and a lack of jump racing at the busiest time of the year can get some salvage from all three All-Weather meetings going ahead today and ITV showcasing the Lingfield card which does feature a listed race.

Haggas To Take Major Honours
Mark Johnston’s runners have had to set up camp at Lingfield and are there a few days and he’d have two live chances with Rufus King coming out well on ratings but it is the William Haggas-trained Headway who looks to be the standard setter here.

Haggas has had this race in mind for some time as the decent juvenile last season put up his best showing in the early part of the year and his first effort over seven furlongs can hopefully reap the rewards for connections.

A Chester maiden winner, Headway went on to be beaten just a head in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and

if he can recapture that sort of form he should take this listed contest.

Royal Occasion At Lingfield
Course and distance winner Royal Birth may be worth sticking with in the competitive five-furlong handicap at 2.55. Royal Birth was a runner at the track just last week when finishing fifth but not beaten that far in the listed race and it could be said he didn’t get the clearest of passages that day.

The top weight Encore D’or was a much closer second on that occasion but his inclusion leaves Royal Birth on a lovely racing weight for this race and the selection meets the top weight on much better terms now also.

Without a win since he won that same listed race a year ago, there should be no excuse today as he has a decent draw, has had a few runs, is in good form

and looks a good bet at 7/1.

Recommended Bets:
Royal Birth (7/1) – 2.55 Lingfield
Headway (13/8) – 3.30 Lingfield
