Humphrey The Act To Follow At Newbury

Keeping the faith with Home Of The Brave could prove profitable as he lines up in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday. (4.10)

No Need to be Brave
We always like to find something with a bit of value but the Hungerford Stakes looks to be a very winnable opportunity for Home Of The Brave who bids to make it three wins from four starts this season.

Hugo Palmer’s charge was as big as 5/2 earlier in the week but is now just a 6/4 shot for the Group 2 contest over his favourite trip of seven-furlongs.

Home Of The Brave is something of a favourite of yours truly and despite going down to Dutch Connection last time out, the expectation is that the four-year-old can confirm his form with Convey from their last meeting and justify his place in the market.

Head or Less 2

Humphrey the Act to Follow
Pat Smullen goes to Newbury for some good rides on Saturday but the Derby winning jockey may have to settle for minor honours on Kings Fete as well. (3.05)

Rated much higher than his four opponents, the five-year-old does have to concede weight all around and the stone he has to give to three-year-old Humphrey Bogart may just be too big an ask.

Humphrey Bogart has had a busy time of things this season and failed to land a blow behind Smullen and Harzand in the Epsom Derby.

But another step up in trip here should suit Richard Hannon’s charge and the 7/2 on offer makes appeal over the odds-on favourite.

On the Level at Tramore
Course and distance winner The Brock Inn is given the nod to win the Assembly Techniques Handicap over two-miles for John Nicholson and talented apprentice Oisin Orr. (6.55)

It may prove to be a difficult task to overturn Galway Festival winner Water Sprite for in-form trainer Gordon Elliott but that filly received a fair hike for her facile victory at Ballybrit and despite Jack Kennedy claiming off 3lbs, it might be worth siding with the five-year-old filly in this one.

The daughter of Stowaway, who has three wins to her credit, is likely to be around a 7/1 shot and she has run many good races in defeat and it would be no surprise if she could exploit her handicap mark of 80 in what will be her first run in a handicap on the level.

Recommended Bets:
Humphrey Bogart (3.05 Newbury)
Home of the Brave (4.10 Newbury)
The Brock Inn (6.55 Tramore)
