Moores On Track For Newbury Knockout

Gary Moore is yet to land a major handicap this season but there’s no time like the present and he looks to be the man to follow at Newbury on Saturday with a Irish bumper winner.

Father and son to land top honours
Gary Moore has won the Betfair Hurdle three times and in this wide open renewal the former Mick Winters-trained Knocknanuss looks worth following at 14/1.

A bumper winner at Killarney in 2015, Knocknanuss had an interrupted career thereafter and didn’t run again until last May. Almost two years between runs takes a lot of patience but his new connections were rewarded with victory first time out at Plumpton.

A couple of seconds followed at the same track before a Christmas victory at Leopardstown but this is an unexposed novice coming into this race with a low-key prep and he may just be getting in under the radar with a nice racing weight.

Moore knows exactly what it takes to win the race

…and this would look one of the more competitive renewals but his price certainly looks value and he can be picked to hold off the likes of Lalor and Bleu Et Rouge.

Elliott supplies best chance at Naas
Gordon Elliott, as is the case for most Irish meetings now, will go to Naas with a number of really good chances but the pick of them would look to be Pete So High in the Novice Hurdle. The Gigginstown-owned four-year-old may even be able to book his ticket to the Cheltenham Festival if able to win well today.

Pete So High made his debut for Elliott at Cork and ran well at Leopardstown over Christmas behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Mr Adjudicator. At the third time of asking the son of High Chaparral opened his hurdling account at Thurles on that famous day when the horses splashed through the water on track.

If those conditions didn’t leave a mark on Pete So High he should be able to win here and possibly become an interesting candidate for the Fred Winter at the Cheltenham Festival.

Recommended Bets:
Knocknanuss (14/1) – 3:35 Newbury
Pete So High – 3:20 Naas
