O’Brien’s Prospect Somehow A Big Price In Lockinge

It’s not often that Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore are responsible for a good looking each-way prospect but in the Lockinge they have exactly that on Saturday.

Somehow She’s A Big Price
Twice a winner already this season, Aidan O’Brien goes to the well again with Somehow but this could be very good planning by the master trainer who may have found a below average renewal of the Lockinge Stakes.

Ribchester, who is the current favourite ahead of 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold, sets the standard here and it’s his inclusion that makes Somehow more of an each-way prospect than a win prospect.

Ribchester is an admirable horse, things didn’t fall right for him in Meydan but he has Toscanini in as a pacemaker on Saturday and if he can get through the ground there’s every chance he’ll win. But Somehow won’t be out of the first three and if there is to be any chinks in the favourite, she will hopefully be the one to pick up the pieces.

The drop back in the trip won’t be the biggest advantage she has going into the race but her ability to handle the ground well is a definite plus and she has bags of class.

She may well land a few big blows this season but against the colts she might not get a better opportunity for Group 1 glory.

Godolphin’s Desert To Warm Up Newmarket
Saeed Bin Suroor has his team in top form at the moment and he’s sent out three winners this week with his other four runners all finishing placed and with Desert Frost he can land the King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The most inexperienced runner in the line-up, Desert Frost is a full brother to Birchwood who had a decent season when he was a two-year-old and was placed in a couple of Group 1s. Desert Frost is a horse that won his maiden nicely and has to step up again but is expected to do so and looks a decent price at 4/1.

Power at Navan
Eddie Lynam and the Power family have enjoyed some great success over the last number of years with their sprinters and while Miss Power might not be a filly that will bring them on the same world tour as Sole Power or Slade Power, the four-year-old could well be up to winning the five-furlong handicap at Navan on Saturday.

The two-time winner was a course and distance winner when claiming her maiden and backed that up with a narrow victory at Naas last time.

She is a filly that probably needs to be ridden with a bit of restraint to come late and that has worked twice under Robbie Downey and hopefully it will a third time on Saturday.

She may be one that will handle six furlongs in time but this stiff ask at Navan suited her before and will hopefully do so again.
