Robbie Power Delighted To Be On Jury Duty For Kerry National

Former Grand National and Gold Cup winning jockey Robbie Power has talked up his chances in today’s Kerry National, despite his mount shouldering top weight in the race.

Speaking to us from Listowel on Wednesday morning, Power was grateful to land the ride on Gordon Elliott’s Jury Duty, who is currently a 7/1 shot to land the highlight of this week’s festival:

“He’s a great ride to pick up and although it will be difficult to shoulder top weight, he has it for a reason. He was very good third in the Galway Plate and he was a Grade 2 winner over fences at Punchestown last year when he beat Shattered Love and Presenting Percy. So he has some great form and I wouldn’t swap him for any other horse in the race.”

Power also spoke about other dangers in the field and current joint second favourite Snow Falcon (6/1) caught his eye at the Galway Festival:

“He would have a big chance after his fourth in the Galway Plate; he was probably a little bit unlucky there after a bad mistake on the first circuit. The other one with Galway form of course is Blazer (5/1f) and his second in the Galway Hurdle is maybe the strongest form of the lot. He’s got a handy weight too. Kerry Lee said the other day that Bishop’s Road always runs well when fresh and although he’s a 10-year-old now he must have a big chance, he’ll appreciate the 11mm of rain Listowel got last night too.”

Blazer is 5/1 favourite for the race at 4.20, but former BoyleSports Irish Grand national winner Rogue Angel is hot on his heels in the betting at 6/1 after opening up as a 20/1 shot in the antepost market.
