Robbie Power; “Dounikos Will Be A Big Player in BoyleSports Irish Grand National”

Taking to his BoyleSports Blog to discuss Gigginstown owned horses’ domination in the BoyleSports Grand National Trial at Punchestown on Sunday, Robbie Power has indicated winner Dounikos as one to watch for the BoyleSports Irish Grand National.

“Let’s not forget he was fancied by some to win the RSA Chase last year. He’ll be a big player on Easter Monday if connections opt to target the Boylesports Irish Grand National.”

Sinoria also caught Power’s eye in the Novice Hurdle saying she “showed a really good attitude to battle back having been headed approaching the last obstacle”.

Speaking on his own performance at Punchestown on Sunday Power said

I hit the crossbar a couple of times with Impact Factor and Discordantly,

…finishing second in both the Richard Maher Memorial Rated Novice Steeplechase and the Punchestown Ticket Deal Maiden Hurdle.

Although the former Gold Cup winning jockey was pleased with Impact Factor, “I think some people might have underestimated him. Impact Factor just lacks tactical speed over two miles on good ground, and on softer ground he should have little difficulty winning his beginners chase.” On Discordantly he said although he won a solid race, Take Revenge just proved to be a better horse on the day.

With two stables in Ireland locked down over equine influenza and four new cases discovered at a second stable in the UK, it has raised further concerns about racing in Ireland and the UK.

Robbie Power has said on the outbreak; “We are all hoping that Irish racing continues without interruption this week. Fingers crossed we get an uninterrupted run with top-class Irish racing from Gowran Park and Navan next weekend.”
