Royal Ascot 2017 – Day Five Betting Tips

It has been an attritional week for punters at Royal Ascot but Aidan O’Brien came to the rescue somewhat yesterday with two star three-year-olds in Caravaggio and Winter.

One of the most popular bets in BoyleSports shops on a Saturday is a Lucky 15 so we’ve picked out four horses for the final day of Royal Ascot.

From Winter To September
We’ve seen some funny results with the two-year-old races this week including a Cheltenham-like celebration with Different League yesterday but…

September is a filly who can take command of things in the Chesham Stakes for Aidan O’Brien.

The filly will take on the colts in the seven-furlong contest in just her second ever career start but it is a race that the trainer won last year with Churchill and he knows what it takes for a filly as well, as he won the race with Maybe back in 2011, and rarely do we see such an emphatic debut winner from Ballydoyle as September was at Leopardstown a few weeks ago.

She is short at Evens and there’s been no gimmes at Royal Ascot this week, as you would expect, but September looks to be a proper filly and is well bred being by Deep Impact out of Peeping Fawn and hopefully she’ll show no signs of immaturity like her big brother, Wisconsin, did yesterday. In stall six she looks to have an ideal draw.

Murphy To Get On The Board Again
Oisin Murphy has a top job with Qatar Racing and is regularly used by Saeed bin Suroor but he started his time in England with Andrew Balding and they are still regular partners in big races. In the Wolferton, Balding will drop…

Elbereth back into handicap company and the hope is that she can reap the rewards.

Elbereth is a bit higher now than when finishing second in the John Smiths Cup at York last summer but since then she has picked up some valuable blacktype in Group 2 company when second to Somehow and at Epsom she was a big price when finishing fourth behind Highland Reel.

It is good company to be holding and while she is fairly highly rated off 107, it is a fairly compressed handicap and hopefully that gives her a strong chance.

Seamie Has Royal Appointment
Seamie Heffernan is no stranger to Royal Ascot success and with Ryan Moore obviously asking the Coolmore partners for permission to ride the Queen’s Dartmouth in the Hardwicke Stakes, Heffernan comes in for the good spare ride on Idaho.

Dartmouth is the market leader and in the colours of royalty and with Sir Michael Stoute still seeking his first winner of the week, he is a horse that will attract a lot of attention…

but Idaho is a classy colt who can run a big race.

Heffernan was on Idaho when he finished third in the Epsom Derby last season and then the horse was second in the Irish equivalent also behind Harzand. In the English St Leger Heffernan took a horrible fall from the horse when holding every chance with three furlongs to go so nobody would begrudge the pair returning to the winners enclosure here.

The Coronation Cup was his seasonal debut and he was well beaten by Highland Reel but he can be expected to come on a lot from that effort.

Tasleet To Be The Diamond
Tasleet is an interesting runner in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Limato has the pick of the form in the book and is a top class sprinter but Tasleet looked good when winning at York last time when beating Magical Memory. That was on much softer ground than we’ll have tomorrow but the horse has got good form on quick ground too and seems to be quite adaptable.

Tasleet only ran twice as a three-year-old and stepping him up to seven furlongs had limited success…

so this good gallop over six could work right into his favour.
