Royal Ascot 2017 – Day Three Betting Tips

Hopes of a record breaking haul of Irish-trained winners at Royal Ascot are probably slim now but the raiding party have a number of strong chances on day three at summer’s major flat meeting.

Halford Can Report To Winners Enclosure
The Hampton Court Stakes is quite an open betting heat and while Irishcorrespondent’s form got a bit of a kick on Tuesday, he is still ready to run a big race for Mick Halford and Shane Foley.

Churchill appeared to let the Irish Guineas form down a bit but with Lancaster Bomber and Thunder Snow finishing in front of him, there’s no doubt that Tuesday’s outing wasn’t a fair reflection of the formbook. Irishcorrespondent was beaten by seven lengths at the Curragh on what was just his third start, after impressing on his first two, and on that occasion he finished clear of Lancaster Bomber and only four lengths behind Thunder Snow.

Halford’s current stable star is a good ground specialist and he’ll definitely get that at Royal Ascot as opposed to when the rain was getting in at the Curragh for the Guineas and…

he certainly is progressive enough to fancy running a big race.

Of the 16 runners going to post for the Hampton Court, 12 of them have more experience than the selection but he is the one that is still on the upward curve and will have learnt plenty from the Guineas run and this drop in class could well see him return to winning ways.

John Gosden has had a slow start to the week but Hyde Park is a consistent sort who is drawn well on the basis of yesterday’s racing in stall 26 and, despite taking his time to open his account, the three-year-old did manage to get his maiden victory at Doncaster last October. He ran a nice race on his first run of the campaign at Goodwood last month and hopefully can improve from that enough to make his mark in this wide open contest.

Proper Order For St George
At his very best, Order Of St George will claim the Ascot Gold Cup for a second successive year but he may not be a horse that punters will want to plunge in on at odds on. When winning this race last year…

Order Of St George defied stamina issues and looked like a horse who could grace this stage for many years to come.

Last time out at Leopardstown he looked back to his best but some of his form in between is in and out. Losing the Irish St Leger to Wicklow Brave was a shock but his third place finish behind Found in the Arc was nearly a career best. However, after that he was beaten at Ascot in the Long Distance Cup, although that was quickly enough after France, and his seasonal debut this season saw him lose out to Torcedor.

Jessica Harrington’s charge, Torcedor can run a big race here at a decent price but it would still be a surprise if Order Of St George doesn’t justify his place in the market although other short priced favourites make more appeal later in the week.
