Irish General Election Odds Shorten To Happen Before End Of The Year

A General Election in Ireland is just a 10/3 chance to happen before the end of the year as the confidence and supply arrangement nears an end.

Leo Varadkar met with Micheál Martin this week to discuss an extension to the deal. Fianna Fáil subsequently said that talks must end before Christmas to allow the public to know where the Government stands.

BoyleSports meanwhile have trimmed the chances of a 2018 Election into 10/3 from 9/2, but with Martin asking the Taoiseach to publicly state that he will not bring down the government while Brexit talks are ongoing, a 2019 visit to the polls is still more likely at an odds-on 4/6.

Varadkar himself may have some food for thought after 51% of participants in a recent opinion poll rated him as the country’s most popular party leader. He is a red hot 1/3 shot to be Taoiseach after the next General Election with Micheál Martin out at 13/5.
