A United Ireland Before 2021?

A referendum on Irish unity has been backed by punters today after Sinn Féin called for a poll to be held on the constitutional future of the country.

Deputy leader Michelle O’Neill made the appeal after two thirds of voters backed reform of abortion law in Ireland via the referendum on the Eighth Amendment last Friday.

She claimed the debate has brought constitutional matters ‘to the fore’ and claimed…

‘the result proved there is appetite for change on the island of Ireland.’

We were offering 5/1 about a referendum happening before 2021 just last week, but the odds have shortened into 3/1 following bets at the weekend.

Both Fine Gael and Sinn Fein also received support from customers in the wake of the ‘Yes’ vote in the Eighth Amendment Referendum.

The chances of a Fine Gael/Sinn Féin coalition after the next General Election was one of the biggest movers in our politics markets following the result, plummeting into 5/1 having been a 20/1 shot before polls opened on Friday.
