Bolger’s Going In The Right Direction At Curragh

Irish Flat racing’s HQ poses another tricky prospect on Sunday and if this corner was to advise a bet for the day it would be a €5 patent (€35 total stake) on three horses that have small chances but would reward you to around €2,635 if it clicks or around €1,430 if you wanted to go each-way for the same stake.

It is a bet that could give you a nice passing interest in the sports for the day.

Leg One Has A Light Weight
At 2.45 the Mark Fahey-trained Jealika is in receipt of weight to all bar one of her rivals and there’s still a chance we haven’t seen the best of this six-year-old filly yet for Mark Fahey.

Jealika showed well first time out this season for a trainer who knows the time of day but from a wide draw at Gowran last time out she could never really get herself into the race and although this is a higher rated race than her last outing three weeks ago, the Curragh is a track that could suit her and if she can sneak into contention, on ground that should be a plus…

hopefully she’ll give a good account of herself at 10/1.

Leg Two Can Return To Winning Ways
When Red Label won at Gowran Park there was some consideration of possibly supplementing for the Irish Guineas. The three-year-old’s defeat to Horseman that weekend probably made the decision not to go down the Classic route a correct one but…

Red Label is a horse that has a lot to offer and it would be no surprise to see him come back to winning ways.

There’s just two three-year-olds in the Silver Stakes and the favourite is likely to be Tony Martin’s Laganore who was also declared for England on Saturday, but Martin has opted to stick closer to home and she looks to have a favourite’s chance, but Red Label is being forgiven for his last run and hopefully he can make that look a wise assumption.

Leg Three Is Going In The Right Direction
Jim Bolger is no stranger to finding a horse that can win a few handicaps on the bounce and after winning last week to end a run of placed efforts, New Direction will run off his revised mark of 74 – up 7lbs – when lining out in the 10-furlong handicap and there’s every chance he’s still the right side of the handicapper.

The son of New Approach stuck at his task well and rallied in the last couple of furlongs to run out a quite snug winner of a competitive Gowran Park contest and while he is taking on the classy Aussie Valentine and the Ger Lyons-trained Song Of Namibia, who is sure to win again, the finger is pointed towards Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning to have another progressive handicapper to keep an eye on over the next few weeks…

with Sunday’s Curragh outing hopefully being a fifth win in his career so far.

Sunday’s patent bet isn’t one you could shout with confidence from the rooftops about but on a very tricky afternoon, it is worth considering as even if two manage to come, you’ll be a bit richer going back to work on Monday.

Recommended Bets:
Jealika (8/1) – 2.45 Curragh
Red Label (10/3) – 4.25 Curragh
New Direction (5/1) – 5.00 Curragh
