Two Women Boxers Fancied For RTÉ Sportsperson Of The Year
Two Irish women boxers have been fancied by punters this week to pick up the RTÉ Sportsperson Of The Year.
Amy Broadhurst and Lisa O’Rourke both made history last week in Istanbul after they were crowned IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship winners in their respective divisions.
Broadhurst, 25, from Dundalk won gold for Ireland under the light welterweight division. She produced a superb performance in the 60-63kg final against Algeria’s Imane Khelif to claim gold, with the judges handing her the unanimous 5-0 victory.
O’Rourke, 20, won gold under the light middleweight division, beating Alcinda Helena Panguane in the final. BoyleSports introduced both boxers at 50/1 but they are now 25/1 to be named the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year winner.
Katie Taylor and Kellie Harrington, a current Olympic champion, are the only other Irish females to win gold at the World Championships with Taylor 4/11 favourite to win the RTÉ award.
