BoyleSports Donates Huge Sum To Parkinson’s UK After World Grand Prix
BoyleSports have donated £10,000 to Parkinson’s UK after enhancing the total raised from the BoyleSports World Grand Prix of darts.
The leading bookmaker were the title sponsor for the famous double-start tournament, which was won on Sunday evening by Michael van Gerwen at the Morningside Arena in Leicester.
The Dutchman himself helped contribute £2,000 after BoyleSports had pledged a donation of £500 for every match in which their “Full House” market was achieved during the World Grand Prix.
He did that twice during the week, but added an additional £1,000 to the total with a personal donation.
That meant a total of £5,500 had been raised by the time Van Gerwen saw off Nathan Aspinall in Sunday’s final after nine full houses landed during the seven nights of action.
But BoyleSports announced afterwards they would boost the pot further, taking the total donation to £10,000.
Parkinson’s UK is a former charity partner of the PDC and former Sky Sports Darts presenter Dave Clark is a celebrity supporter of the organisation.
Clark said: “Thank you so much to BoyleSports for this fantastic show of support for Parkinson’s UK, a cause that is close to my heart.
“I’ve been living with Parkinson’s for ten years now. It’s a relentless and unpredictable condition, but I’m determined to stay positive and live the best possible life I can.
“There are around 145,000 people in the UK who like me, face the daily challenges that Parkinson’s can throw at you – so finding new and better treatments just can’t wait.
“Parkinson’s UK is helping to make that a reality by funding pioneering research and the £10,000 raised during the BoyleSports World Grand Prix thanks to kind additions by BoyleSports and Michael van Gerwen will help drive that forward.”
Leon Blanche, Head of Communications for BoyleSports said: “Huge thanks to all the players at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix who hit nine full houses between them – we’re delighted to be able to boost the pot to £10,000 and to back such a worthy cause. We really hope this donation helps Parkinson’s UK continue the great work that they do.”
