Brazil’s Form

Brazil come into this World Cup Group G opener as the top ranked side in the world and tournament favourites at 3/1. They are strong favourites to win this Group G at 1/3.

Brazil’s World Cup qualifying campaign was the most impressive of all the nations at this tournament. They went unbeaten through 17 games in South America’s qualifiers with 14 wins and three draws to finish in top spot.

This team have won all six of their last six games and those wins have come in convincing fashion too. Brazil are +20 in goal difference from those last six games.

Serbia’s Form

Serbia are the 21st ranked nation in the FIFA World Rankings and they find themselves as the third favourites to win Group G at 11/2 behind opponents Brazil and Switzerland.

Serbia had a great qualifying campaign to earn their spot in Qatar. They upset the odds to finish three points ahead of Portugal in their qualifying group.

The Serbians are in fantastic form as they head into this their first game at this World Cup. They have won five of their last six games with the other ending in a draw. The most impressive result in this run of games was a 4-1 win against Sweden.

Brazil’s Attack vs Serbia’s Defence

Brazil have one of the most potent attacks in this tournament. They have scored 22 goals in their last six games and will cause Serbia a lot of problems in defence in this game.

Their most dangerous attacker is Neymar Jr of PSG who is one of the most electric players in the world on his day. Neymar will take up an attacking midfield position in what is likely to be a 4-3-3 formation.

The PSG man will be joined in the attack by other top players like Vinicius Jr of Real Madrid and Raphinha of Barcelona who can create a lot of chances themselves.

Serbia have a decent defensive record in recent games. Over their last six games they have only conceded five goals which is an average of less than one goal per game. They are likely to set up in a 3-4-3 formation with three centre backs and two wing backs in defence.

Despite Serbia’s impressive defensive performances of late I would expect them to struggle in this game against the firepower that Brazil have up front.

Serbia come into this game in incredible goal-scoring form. They have scored 11 goals in their last three games which is an average of just under four goals per game.

As mentioned earlier, the Serbians are likely to play a 3-4-3 formation for this game. The main question going into this game for Serbia will be about the fitness of star forward Aleksandar Mitrovic. He is dealing with a foot injury but the expectation is that he will start this game.

The Fulham man has been lighting it up in the Premier League this season for Fulham with nine goals to his name. Ajax forward Dusan Tadic is another Serbian forward who will be a goal scoring threat in this game.

Brazil have been one of the best defensive teams in the world of late. They have only conceded three goals in their last ten international fixtures. With Alisson in goal along with Thiago Silva and Marquinhos manning the central area Serbia might find this Brazil side very hard to break down.
