Brighton v Man United Odds

Home advantage for Brighton means they come into this match as favourites despite their narrow penalty kick loss to Man United when these teams recently played last in the FA-Cup Semi-Final. Brighton can be currently gotten at 20/21 to win this game with key players like Karou Mitoma, Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister all expected to return to the side after being on the bench against Wolves.

Man United come into this match as underdogs which is warranted considering this squad’s dismal away record this season. The Red Devils have suffered six losses and one draw in their games against the current top nine on the road with only Brighton left to play of those sides.

United will also be without first-choice CB pairing Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez due to injury. There is some positive news for Ten Hag’s side as they go into the season’s final stretch as teen sensation Alejandro Garnacho will soon return from injury however he is not expected to be fit for this game against Brighton.

The poor away form and injuries in the side make Man United 12/5 underdogs for this game. The draw in this one is priced up at 14/5 which looks like a decent price considering how tightly matched these teams have been this season.

The Form –  Brighton v Man United

Brighton’s Form

Brighton have arguably been the Premier League’s surprise package this season (aside from maybe Newcastle). Proof of that is their 52-point total with seven league matches still left to play.

The Seagulls have already surpassed their 51-point total from their 38 matches last season as they make a shock charge for European Football. Brighton has three wins and two defeats in their last five league matches.

They most impressively recovered from a shock 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in their previous match at the weekend to dismantle Wolves on Saturday in a 6-0 home victory. In that Wolves trashing they created an XG of 3.3 to while only conceding 0.8 in what was a clinical finishing display.

Man United’s Form

Erik ten Hag has come in as Man United manager this season and seems to be finally steering the club in the right direction with at least one trophy secured and European qualification for next season looking highly likely. The club’s 63-point total with six matches left to play has already comfortably surpassed their 58-point total from the entirety of last season.

Man United have been unspectacular yet solid in recent weeks with four wins and one draw in the league as they look to cement their European Status for next season. The only blot in their form was a 2-2 draw to Tottenham where a 2-0 lead was not enough to prevent a collapse. They recovered on Sunday from that disappointment to put in a professional 1-0 victory against an in-form Aston Villa creating an XG of 1.2 to Villa’s 0.6.

Brighton v Man United Preview

Brighton’s Attack

Brighton come in on the back of dismantling Wolves on Saturday in a 6-0 home victory where they created an XG of 3.3 to Wolves 0.8 in a clinical finishing display where doubles were scored by Undav, Welbeck and Groß. This was without Mitoma and Mac Allister starting as they came off the bench following injuries. Although the return of Irish Teenage sensation Evan Ferguson is unlikely.

A Brighton side who were in the past criticised for poor finishing under Graham Potter are now the joint fifth highest scores in the division with 61 goals scored, which is 12 more than Man United do this season.

Man United’s Defence

Man United have conceded 39 goals this season which is the league’s fourth-best defence, but they have also only conceded one less than Brighton. However, if you remove their 7-0 defeat from Liverpool and 6-3 defeat to Man City, they would have the best defence in the league statistically.

That was with predominately the formidable duo of Martinez and Varane though and it looks like a different defensive prospect for opposition teams without them. It must be said though at the weekend the defensive pairing of Lindelof and Shaw was particularly superb along with Malacia and Dalot on the flanks reducing an in-form Aston Villa and Ollie Watkins to very few chances created.

Man United’s Attack

Man United have flattered to deceive going forward this season with only 49 goals scored. That is only good enough for the eight-best attack in the league. With attacking talents like Jadon Sancho, Antony and Anthony Martial being inconsistent for large spells.

Marcus Rashford has been the main bright spark in attack this season with his dynamism and pace in particular helping him to a record of 16 goals and 5 assists in 31 Premier League games. Rashford will be the key goal threat again on Thursday against Brighton.

Brighton’s Defence

Brighton has been decent defensively this season with only 40 goals conceded in their 31 matches an average of 1.29 goals per match which is good enough to be the fifth-best defence in the top flight.

Brighton restricted Wolves to an XG of only 0.8 at the weekend in a dominant display and after restricting Man United to no goals in 120 minutes in their FA-Cup semi-final they will fancy themselves for another clean sheet on Thursday.

Brighton v Man United Prediction

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Manchester United

Brighton has been excellent this season and they have caused Man United problems in every fixture they’ve played. Man United on the other hand have been very poor away from home against the top-nine sides as they struggle away from the home comforts of Old Trafford.

Marcus Rashford will prove key to their chances as always and I can see him scoring. However, I just cannot see Man United not conceding here so I think the game will end in a 1-1 draw.

Best Bet: Scorecast – Marcus Rashford First Goalscorer, Correct Score Draw 1-1 @ 28/1

While Man United are aiming to secure Champions League football for next season their cross town rivals Man City have their eyes on a much bigger prize. Man City are looking to equal Man United’s historic treble over the next month plus of football and we previewed City’s treble chances in a recent post.
