Coolavanny Hoffa Goes Favourite For BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby

Coolavanny Hoffa has taken over as favourite to be crowned BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby champion after opening the second round with the fastest clock of the competition so far.

The son of Droopys Sydney and Coolavanny Ella landed the opening second-round heat on Friday night in superb fashion by six lengths to Ballymac Run in a rapid 29.13 and has since seen his derby odds slashed in half to 6/1 from 12/1.

That means he has leapfrogged previous favourite Ballinabola Ed, who nonetheless shortened into 8/1 from 10/1 having clocked the fastest time on Saturday night when justifying 2/5 favouritism in heat 13.

A competitive opening heat on Saturday night went the way of Born Warrior, who has been backed down to 12/1 from 20/1 to share third favouritism alongside Romeo Magic (12/1 from 14/1) and Ballymac Finn (12/1 from 16/1).

Favourite backers will have all eyes on heat 6 this weekend after the third-round draw threw up a mouth-watering clash between the leading pair in the betting Coolavanny Hoffa and Ballinabola Ed, who are joined in a fascinating contest by Maries Wedding, Callaway Pro Am, Droopys Rocker and All About Ted.
