Czech Broberg Out For Masters Success

The Czech Masters takes place this week at the Albatross Golf Resort, with Victor Dubuisson topping the antepost betting.

The Tournament
Last year this tournament was the penultimate event in the Ryder Cup qualification schedule, and saw Jamie Donaldson clinch his spot at Gleneagles. But there are no Ryder Cup places up for grabs this year and with the FedEx play-offs getting underway on the other side of the Atlantic, few of the top European stars will be involved in a field which has a distinctly second division look to it.

The Course
The Albatross Golf Resort in the outskirts of Prague is a relatively new course that opened in 2009, yet is considered the best in the country. At 7466 yards, it’s long, and although the rough is severe, the fairways are fairly generous, so the big hitters will have an advantage there. There are plenty of bunkers, but the green approaches are not particularly challenging and aggressive play is likely to be awarded.

In The Bunker
Victor Dubuisson tops the antepost betting this week, but although he is the big name in a field of second-rank European contenders, I’m not sure he warrants favouritism. His top twenty finish at the PGA Championship was an improvement on what he had shown in his three previous outings, but he is not the most consistent of performers and this will be his first attempt at this tournament.

He has the class to win it but I wouldn’t be confident of backing him at 12/1.

Recommended Bets
Kristoffer Broberg has been improving steadily in recent weeks and having come close to landing the odds in Denmark last week, he’s worth sticking with in Prague. He had a mixed experience twelve months ago, finishing just inside the top thirty, but this year goes into the event in better form, thanks to his scintillating final round of 62 in Aalborg last week.

Odds of 16/1 look fair and he is a solid bet.

Bradley Dredge was another player we tipped to do well last week, and although he couldn’t sustain his challenge, he did finish sixth to improve significantly on his recent European Tour efforts. Twelve months ago he followed up a top five finish in Denmark with a second in Prague, so he clearly took to the course and despite his good showing in Aalborg, he is still on offer at a decent price of 28/1.

The final name to add to your shortlist this week is Peter Uihlein. The young American has yet to add to his debut Tour win in 2013, but after struggling for a few weeks, he has shown signs of form, playing well at the Paul Lawrie Matchplay and then carding three solid rounds in Denmark, before suffering a poor last day. He made the top twenty in Prague last year and in a wide open tournament, he offers a touch of value at 40/1.
