Leona Maguire Could Cause Massive Upset In RTÉ SPOTY Race

Kellie Harrington and Rachael Blackmore have a new sportsperson to worry about as Leona Maguire has been backed this week to claim the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year title.

The 26-year-old golfer was instrumental in Europe’s Solheim Cup win in Toledo, Ohio, last week and has now found herself in the running to win the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year award.

BoyleSports had her chalked up at a remote 100/1 but following her performance at the Tokyo Olympics and the Solheim Cup, her chances have plummeted into 7/1.

It’s all about the girls as before Maguire was trimmed the betting was all about Harrington and Blackmore. Dubliner Harrington won a gold medal at the Olympic Games after she overcame underdog status to beat red-hot favourite Beatriz Ferreira from Brazil with Irish punters backing her down to 6/4 from as high as 100/1.

Blackmore is easing by the day with her odds drifting to 4/6 from 4/7 this week but those chances were much shorter at 1/100 before Harrington’s and Maguire’s success.

We are lucky to have so many talented women and now Leona Maguire is in the running for the RTE SPOTY award. Her odds have plummeted into 7/1 from 100/1.
