Premier League Darts – MVG Best Bet Of Week 6

Just four weeks remain until we lose two players from the 2015 Premier League. Jaymes Monte picks out his best bets from week 6 of the campaign…

Stephen Bunting v Dave Chisnall
Stephen Bunting put his first win on the board in an impressive 7-3 defeat of Adrian Lewis last week and then followed that up with a run to the semi-finals of the UK Open.

However, I hope that for his sake he can look back positively on a weekend that included wins against Michael Smith, Dave Chisnall and Mervyn King, and not reflect too much on the 10-0 semi-final whitewash at the hands of Peter Wright.

Dave Chisnall, meanwhile, remains unbeaten in the Premier League this season and sits atop of the table with nine points from five games. But, having lost to the Bullet at the weekend, I couldn’t be backing Chizzy here at odds-on prices. Instead, take a slice of the 2/1 being offered about back-to-back wins for Bunting.

Raymond van Barneveld v James Wade
It’s been a very mixed season or Barney so far and that was reiterated at the weekend where he would have been delighted to beat Adrian Lewis 9-3 in the third round, but then concerned by the 9-1 defeat to Peter Wright in round 4.

James Wade is also faltering his way through the early stages of this campaign and although he enjoyed a run to the Last 16 at the UK Open, he didn’t really beat anyone of note to reach that point, while in the Premier League it is now three weeks without a win.

I couldn’t confidently back either player here and the Draw looks to be the best bet at odds of 7/2.

Phil Taylor v Michael van Gerwen
Perhaps surprisingly, this will be the first meeting between these two heavyweights since August, and a hugely anticipated one at that. MVG bulldozed his way to the UK Open title at the weekend, even though hampered by a sore shoulder, and remains unbeaten in the Premier League, although he has drawn his last two.

The Power would have been disappointed with only reaching the quarter-finals of the UK Open, but does at least come into this game on the back of an impressive 7-5 win against Wade last Thursday where he averaged 106.48.

It’s rare to see Phil Taylor made the outsider for any darts match, but it’s even less common to have the opportunity to back MVG at an odds-against price these days. Take the 11/10 about the Dutchman taking both points on offer.

Gary Anderson v Adrian Lewis
Gary Anderson has won each of the last six meetings between these two players and will come into the game the slightly more upbeat of the two players; although neither will be entirely happy with recent results.

Both made early exits from the weekend’s UK Open and each lost convincingly in Exeter last Thursday. But that head-to-head record could be telling and the 11/10 about Anderson winning here is a tempting option.

Kim Huybrechts v Peter Wright
After dreadful starts to the Premier League campaign it’s quite a surprise to write about this match as a meeting of two of the PDC’s in-form players. Kim Huybrechts got his first win of the Premier League 2015 campaign last Thursday when he beat Barney, while Peter Wright followed up back-to-back draws against Taylor and MVG with a run to the final of the UK Open on Sunday.

Snakebite, despite recent success, looks a little short in the betting at odds of 11/10. Instead I’d be tempted to take a plunge on another draw here at odds of 7/2.
