Michael van Gerwen is set to start as favourite for the BoyleSports World Grand Prix despite a surge in support for both Gerwyn Price and reigning world champion Peter Wright.

The Dutchman this week begins his defence of the title he won last year at Dublin’s Citywest,

but has drifted to 4/1 from 5/2 to win his sixth World Grand Prix crown at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

Van Gerwen’s campaign begins against Polish star Krzysztof Ratajski on Tuesday night where he is 4/9 favourite, but a recent slump in form for the world number one means he is a 1/3 shot not to reach the final despite featuring in the decider in five of the last six seasons.

Welshman Gerwyn Price is Van Gerwen’s biggest danger according to the odds as he has closed into 5/1 from 6/1, with Peter Wright the 11/2 from 6/1 third favourite to go one better than his 2018 runner-up finish.

A 9-dart finish at the BoyleSports World Grand Prix is a 9/2 shot, while Van Gerwen himself is 11/1 to hit a perfect leg during the tournament.
