Irish Rockers Fontaines D.C. In The Running For Grammy

Dublin band Fontaines D.C. have been nominated for Best Rock Album for “A Hero’s Death” at the upcoming Grammy Awards and Irish punters are getting behind them to walk off with the gong.

BoyleSports chalked up Fontaines D.C. at 16/1 to land the award on Monday morning, but those odds were quickly slashed into 8/1 after an avalanche of support from the capital.

The band who formed at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in the heart of Dublin’s Liberties are nominated in the category alongside The Strokes (Evs), Michael Kiwanuka (5/2), Grace Potter (6/1) and Sturgill Simpson (7/1).

Coldplay are also being backed to land their eighth Grammy for their album “Everyday Life”. It has been cut into 12/1 from 16/1 to be named Album of the Year and add to Coldplay’s strong record over the years including awards for Record of the Year (“Clocks” in 2004) and Song of the Year (“Viva La Vida” in 2009).

Taylor Swift, who took home her first Grammy as Best New Artist in 2008, is the 4/5 favourite to pick up Album of the Year. Swift is the most nominated female songwriter in the history of the Song of the Year category and although she yet to win it, that could all change with ‘Cardigan’ tumbling into 6/5 from 5/1 with BoyleSports last week.
