Why Norway Could Have Eurovision Upset & United Kingdom Shock Stats

Eurovision data experts at BoyleSports have analysed the past performance of every country since its inception in 1956.

The idea is to formulate the ultimate points table – which reveals the United Kingdom are amongst the competition’s most successful nations alongside legendary mainstays Sweden and Italy.

The UK has scored 4081 points in total, putting them eighth on the all-time standings from the competition – dispelling the myth that Britain fare well in the legendary song contest.

The historical stats also suggest Norway – a 66/1 shot – have history on their side as they sit third in the all-time points list, suggesting an upset could be on the cards if they perform to their historical average Sweden, who amongst the favourites to win at 8/1, are the most successful nation having accumulated a whopping 6352 points in the contest’s 66-year history.

Stats reveal three-time winners Italy, amongst the favourites this year at 6/1, have a great chance of becoming the first nation since Ireland to retain their crown.

Despite sitting ninth in the all-time list, Ireland failed to make this year’s final.

A spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Our Eurovision number-crunchers analysed every competition in the contest’s history to reveal the ultimate champion.

“Thanks to the likes of Eurovision legends ABBA, Sweden are the greatest performing nation of all time, and the odds suggest they’re in with a great chance of winning it for a sixth time.

“Despite two infamous nul points, the data shows that the UK has a surprisingly strong scoring record which could be added to this year with Sam Ryder amongst the favourites this year.”
