Euro 2024 Betting Favourites

France

Joint favourites to win Euro 2024 odds are France at 4/1. Those odds imply that France have a 20% chance of winning Euro 2024.

The French have been fluttering around the top of the international football discussion for years in what has been a golden period in French football. They were runners-up in the Euros in 2016, at the next major tournament they went one better by winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup. France suffered a disappointing Round of 16 exit at Euro 2020 to Switzerland. However, they bounced back well at the 2022 FIFA World Cup where they fell just short, losing the final to Argentina on penalties.

France have been in flying form of late with six wins from six outings in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign. They scored 13 goals and conceded just 1 goal in those matches.

Their only blot in the 2023 form-book was a 2-1 defeat against Germany back in September in an international friendly.

France coach Didier Deschamps has shown to have the acumen and tactical prowess to be successful at the international level. With talents like Mbappé (24), Camavinga (21) and Griezmann (32), among a host of other top talents, France will be hard beaten at Euro 2024.

England

England are joint favourites to win Euro 2024 at odds of 4/1. Those odds suggest that England have a 20% chance of winning their first-ever European Championship in 2024.

For all their critics and cynics, England are enjoying perhaps their most consistent run of success on the international stage in some time, perhaps ever.

This run of success began at the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they finished fourth place after an extra-time semi-final loss to Croatia. Gareth Southgate’s team built on that with a Euro 2020 Runner-up finish where they were beaten on penalties by Italy. The last time we saw England at a major tournament was at the 2022 FIFA World Cup where they were consigned to a quarter-final exit after a 2-1 loss to France.

England have continued their impressive run of form in 2023 with 7 wins and 1 draw from their 8 games. They have already confirmed qualification for Euro 2024 with 16 points from their six games so will have another chance of major-tournament glory in 2024.

This English generation has some bonafide superstars Jude Bellingham (19), Phil Foden (22) and Marcus Rashford (25). Their talented squad and track record of success at recent major tournaments makes them deserving of the co-favourites tag for Euro 2024.

Germany

The third favourites for Euro 2024 are Germany at odds of 13/2. Those odds imply that Germany have a 13.3% chance of winning Euro 2024 and becoming the first host nation to win the tournament since Spain in 1968.

The Germans qualified automatically for the 2024 Euros due to their status as host nation of the tournament.

Germany are one of the most successful national teams in the history of football with four FIFA World Cup wins and three European Championships. However, they have had a poor track record in recent major tournaments since winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

In 2016 they reached the semi-final of the Euros where they were beaten by France 2-0. That performance was as good as it got for Germany in recent major tournaments with group-stage exits at the last two FIFA World Cups and a Round of 16 exit at Euro 2020.

The biggest news for the German national team in 2023 was the appointment of Julian Nagelsmann on the 22nd of September. He became Germany’s second youngest coach at 36 years old, only behind Otto Nerz who was 34 when hired in 1926.

Before Nagelsmann’s appointment, Germany had a record of four defeats, two wins and one draw in 2023. Since the appointment of Nagelsmann, the future looks a little brighter with a 1-3 win over the USA but also a disappointing 2-2 draw against Mexico.

Germany hasn’t won the Euros since 1996 but with young talents like Moukoko (18), Musiala (20) and Adeyemi (21) all maturing the host nation could prove to be a serious threat.

Portugal

Next up in the betting to win Euro 2024 is Portugal at odds of 15/2. Those odds suggest that Portugal have an 11.8% chance of winning their first European Championship since 2016.

The Euros has been an event that Portugal usually performs well in. They have won the tournament once (in 2016), finished runners-up once and reached the semi-final twice.

Portugal have been in brilliant form in 2023 with eight wins from eight matches to bounce back from their Quarter-Final exit in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In 2023 they have scored 32 goals and conceded just 2.

Interestingly when you look at their squad, Ronaldo at 38 is still leading the way for them. Three of the current squad might be playing in Saudi but they’ve serious credentials for Euro 2024.

Spain

Further out in the betting are Spain at odds of 8/1. Those odds imply that Spain have an 11.1% chance of winning Euro 2024.

After a period of dominance on the international stage from 2008-2012 where they won the 2008 Euros, 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euros, Spain has gone through a rut in recent years which is only natural after the end of a golden generation.

Luis de la Fuente was appointed head coach on the 8th of December after the country’s round-of-16 penalty shootout defeat to Morocco at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Spain have been solid in qualifying action for this tournament with 5 wins and 1 defeat from their opening six matches. They have 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat from all their games in 2023. That form has Spain looking like they are becoming a dangerous force again.

The tools are there for another great side with the likes of Gavi (19), Pedri (20) and Fati (21).
