Dubliner Predicts Man United Comeback & Pockets €4,820

Manchester United’s Champions League comeback may have shocked the majority of football fans on Wednesday evening but one Dublin punter is saying ‘I told you so’ after landing a four-figure sum thanks to an astonishing bet.

Marcus Rashford converted from the penalty spot in injury time at the Parc Des Princes to seal a stunning comeback for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men as they became the first side in Champions League history to overturn a first leg deficit of 2-0.

The extraordinary turn of events seemed no surprise however to an anonymous Dublin punter, who placed a €20 bet in their local BoyleSports shop on Wednesday afternoon on Romelu Lukaku to score the first goal of the game and Manchester United to go on and win 3-1.

The bet was facing odds of 240/1, but the controversial VAR decision at the end of the game which led to the winning goal meant the customer was able to return to the shop on Thursday to collect a tidy total of €4,820.

Another Irish punter was also revelling in the turnaround after they constructed their own bet via BoyleSports’ Build-A-Bet feature on their app.

They correctly predicted seven outcomes in the game, including Romelu Lukaku’s first goal, the 3-1 scoreline, over 3.5 goals, both teams scoring, Man Utd scoring first, Man Utd to be leading at half-time and Man Utd to win the second half.

The €5 stake on that wager returned €2,255 and overcame staggering odds of 450/1.
