Ex-Everton Star Was Not Convinced By Frank Lampard Appointment

Former Everton striker Louis Saha admits he was not “super enthusiastic” by Frank Lampard’s arrival in the Goodison Park hotseat.

The Blues are in a relegation battle more than ever in the Premier League after losing a crunch clash at Burnley in midweek and now face a daunting trip to Saha’s other former club Manchester United on Saturday.

The Frenchman, speaking to BoyleSports, hopes Lampard can steer his former club to safety but didn’t feel he’d done enough in his managerial career to land the job on Merseyside.

“When he signed on to be manager of Everton I thought, yes, he was a great player, he has done some good stuff at Derby,” said Saha.

“But I didn’t think he’d done enough to suggest he deserved to be manager of a team like Everton after the spell he had with Chelsea, who were playing in the Champions League.

“I didn’t think he was a better match than Wayne Rooney. Wayne was obviously aware of things going on in the club. Obviously, Frank was available.

“He’s a good guy and has good skills in communication, but it’s a tough job to do and sometimes you need luck; he hasn’t got that at the moment.

“But I was not super enthusiastic about him as I didn’t think he was the number one choice.”
