Everton v Brentford

Tottenham v Brighton

“There has only been a few disappointing performances under Conte, notably the League Cup semi-final against Chelsea,” said Natalie.

“It’s interesting, Brighton come into this off the back of three successive draws and that’s crazy, really. They have surpassed expectations there is no doubt about it. They are doing brilliantly.

“They didn’t bring anyone in of note in this transfer window, certainly not anyone that is going to make an impact this season which is a bit of a surprise.

“I think the want was to bring in a striker who could hit the ground running and I don’t think they have brought anyone in that can do that, so there is much reliance on Danny Wellbeck and Neal Maupay to get the goals.

“There is a lot of pressure on them to continue to score goals which has been their biggest issue.

“Tottenham, on the other hand, are an intriguing side. They have had a lot of outgoings and brought a couple of players in but I think that’s all about preparing for the summer. Making sure they have enough space in the squad to then bring in the players that Conte wants.

“I think Spurs should go serious for this competition because there is no Europe for them to contend. They are out of the League Cup, and yes there is a top four finish they are trying to achieve, but in terms of silverware it has been such a long time.

“It’s been nearly 14 years since 2008 they won anything so there is no reason why they can’t take this competition seriously and trying to go all the way.

“Bearing in mind that a lot of the teams that are around them are in the top four are going to be in Champions League or European campaigns, so they have a lot to deal with – but why not put some priority into winning this one.

“This is the first meeting between the sides this season due to the postponements so it’s a funny one really to know how they are going to play each other because they haven’t faced each other, so I find that intriguing.

“I do think Tottenham will win it and Brighton won’t make it comfortable – but I think Spurs just have enough to get over the line.”
