Punters are showing confidence that Erling Haaland will make an instant impact in England by finding the net for Manchester City in Saturday’s clash.

The Norwegian international took just 12 minutes to open his account on his debut for his new club as Pep Guardiola’s men warmed up for their title defence with a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in a pre-season friendly in Wisconsin.

Now he is being heavily backed to star in the traditional season curtain-raiser, which has been switched to Leicester’s King Power Stadium as Wembley prepares to host England’s bid for silverware in the Women’s Euro 2022 Final.

Haaland has been backed into 11/10 from 7/5 to get his name on the scoresheet in the betting with BoyleSports, who have also cut the chances of a Haaland hat-trick into 28/1 from 33/1 following some significant support for a spectacular first appearance for City on English soil.

Every four in five punters so far are backing the reigning Premier League champions to get their hands on the silverware by winning the match in normal time at 6/4, while FA Cup winners Liverpool are set to kick off 9/5 underdogs.

The Reds’ pre-season preparations were boosted by a 5-0 away victory at RB Leipzig, headlined by a four-goal haul for half-time substitute Darwin Nunez.

The summer recruit from Benfica is a 7/4 shot to mark first game in England for Liverpool with a goal, although Mo Salah is being backed as marginally more likely to find the net for Jurgen Klopp’s men at 13/8.

Both sides are 5/1 to emerge victorious via a penalty shootout, which was required the last time the pair met in the Community Shield in 2019, when Manchester City won 5-4 on spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “We’re expecting Erling Haaland to dominate the goalscoring markets this season and he’s already being backed off the boards to get amongst the goals in the Community Shield.

“We’ve even had to shorten the chances of a hat-trick into 28/1 from 33/1 so it’ll be fascinating to see if Virgil van Dijk and co can nullify the threat and help their side set down the early marker.”
