New Favourite For Newcastle Job As Lucien Favre Odds Shorten

Lucien Favre is the new favourite to be appointed manager at Newcastle United as the search continues for a successor to Steve Bruce in the St. James’ Park dugout.

The Swiss coach started the week as a 12/1 shot, but had been backed down to 7/1 on Wednesday as Paulo Fonseca remained the odds-on favourite to be appointed by Newcastle’s new Saudi owners.

But former Roma manager Fonseca has been eased out to 5/2 from 8/11 in the past 24 hours, with momentum instead gathering strongly behind Favre, who was linked to the position in German media earlier this week.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss has now edged ahead in the betting as the 2/1 favourite

…as Graeme Jones prepares to oversee the side for the second consecutive weekend when they welcome league leaders Chelsea to Tyneside on Saturday.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is also trending in the right direction having been backed into 9/1 from 14/1, while outgoing Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has made a notable move into 20/1 from 80/1 following his exit from the Nou Camp.
