Newcastle Relegation Odds Pushed Eased Following Takeover

Newcastle’s Premier League survival prospects have received a significant boost according to the betting in the wake of the Saudi-led takeover of the club.

Mike Ashley’s controversial reign as owner of the Magpies ended on Thursday as the Premier League ratified the sale to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the news has already triggered a gamble in a reversal of fortunes for the club, who currently lie in the relegation zone with only three points from seven matches.

The winless run at the start of the season had seen Steve Bruce’s side plummet into odds-on at 4/5 for relegation to the Championship come May.

We have already pushed them out to 9/4 for the drop

…while the chances of them being in the top half of the table come the end of the season have been slashed into 9/1 from 16/1.

Some optimistic fans are already backing some high-profile arrivals at St. James’ Park and Kylian Mbappe appears high on the wishlist at 25/1 to make his way to Tyneside during the January transfer window, while the chances of Harry Kane or Erling Haaland making the switch to the North West before February are rated at 33/1 and 50/1 respectively.
