The Scottish side will be at home for the first leg for the encounter with the Serbian outfit, who are certainly no pushovers based on their away form in particular this season.

They also warmed up nicely for Thursday’s clash with a 5-0 win at the weekend, adding to 3-0 and 2-0 wins the week before, so they’re also hard to break down with six clean sheets in their last seven in all competitions.

History is on Rangers’ side, though. Red Star have only one just once in six away matches to Scottish opposition, stretching back 60 years. And it’s over 40 years since they went beyond the competition (then UEFA Cup) where they went all the way to the final in 1979.

Let’s take a look at the goalscorer markets, and perhaps all eyes will be on one man, “El Bufalo”. Alfredo Morelos has scored six goals for Rangers this season and he could break a club record on Thursday.

If he can score once more, he will overtake James Forrest’s record from the 1960s with the most goals in a major European competition in a single season.

Morelos to score first is 4/1, to score anytime is 5/4, and 2+ goals is 7/1. Alternatively, not consider James Tavernier, who grabbed a hat-trick against Borussia Dortund in the last round, two of which were penalties. To score anytime is a tasty shout at 11/4.

None of Rangers’ last eight UEL games have been without a goal before the break either.

In terms of Red Star, their main man seems to Aleksander Katai on the back of a hat-trick. He’s 15/2 to score first or 5/2 anytime. 2+ goals is 16/1.

PREDICTION: This is going to be an eye-catching last 16 encounter and Rangers have to get off to a good start at home in the first leg. No easy feat against a rock solid Red Star defence of late either. But they’re at Ibrox and if they can get the first goal, they could be on their way. Their games in the competition aren’t dull either, so the Over 2.5/3.5 goal markets are appealing, as is Rangers to win and both teams to score which is 11/4.
