Seeley’s Selections – Argentina v Paraguay

Argentina v Paraguay

Match Betting

It’s been a good start for favourite backers in this year’s Copa America and I can’t see Paraguay doing the BoyleSports odds compilers a favour by upsetting the odds in Saturday’s Group B clash with tournament favourites Argentina.

The Argies have been popular with punters to not only win this match but to also win the tournament and start their quest as BoyleSports’ industry best 15/8 favourites to win their first Copa America since 1999.

I’m certain that they will start off with a win on Saturday night, but they’ve had many chances to win tournaments previously and they’ve fallen short. I’m prepared to take them on again on the outright markets.

Argentina are just 2/7 with BoyleSports to win this which will detract many from having a bet on them, but I honestly thought that they would be a lot, lot shorter than they are to win the group opener.

Gerardo Martino’s side are in fine form arriving in Chile with six wins in their last seven matches and in a group that also features the tough challenge of defending champions Uruguay, goal difference can be very important.

I’m expecting a bit of a show from the tournament favourites.

Argentina have now scored twelve goals in their last three matches with Paraguay with the last meeting a 5-2 success in World Cup qualifying in Asuncion.

However good Argentina are going forward, they are the best, they are still really vulnerable at the back and in those three meetings they’ve conceded on every occasion and both teams to score at 23/20 with BoyleSports looks a great way to play for any neutral looking for a bit of late night South American fun on a Saturday night.

Paraguay are just 10/1 to pull off a shock win and honestly I thought they would be at least double that price. They are shocking and won’t even come close to the win.
Ramon Diaz’s side have won just three internationals in their last 13 and they’ve failed to beat powerhouses of world football the UAE, China and Costa Rica in that losing run, so what chance have they got in this one?…No chance.

This is expected to be very one-sided and the 2/1 with BoyleSports on Argentina -2 goals also looks a fair way to get involved. I’m expecting goals and I’m expecting both nations to contribute to them and it could be worth playing on some big correct scores.

A 4-1 Argentina win is on the short list at 16/1 with BoyleSports as is a 5-1 success at the 28/1 and my preference is for the bigger price of the two.

Any one of the attacking talents amongst Argentina’s ranks can open the scoring and it’s no surprise to see Messi head the betting in the first goalscorer markets. What might surprise you is the industry best price of 3/1 offered by BoyleSports who want to take your money on that market and rightly so.

The little maestro isn’t as prolific for his country as he is for his club and this is a brave thing to say but I’m ignoring him in this one.

Sergio Aguero is expected to get the nod ahead of Carlos Tevez in Gerardo Martino’s starting XI and the Manchester City ace has a great international goalscoring record with 26 goals from his 61 appearances and at 10/3 with BoyleSports, he would be my first goalscorer selection.

B Lucky!
