Seeley’s Selections – FA Cup – Ipswich v Southampton

Ipswich v Southampton

Match Betting

Live FA Cup third round football is back on the BBC on Wednesday night and this time we go to Portman Road in search of an upset when Championship side Ipswich take on Premier League Southampton.

If both sides take this game and competition seriously this promises to be a good old fashioned cup tie, but I doubt a cup run is what either manager would want at this stage of their respective seasons.

Ipswich’s main priority is without a doubt a return to the Premier League and the distraction of this tie ended their 12 match unbeaten run on Saturday when they went down 1-0 at home to promotion rivals Derby.

Manager Mick McCarthy would much rather three points away at former club Millwall on Saturday than a win in this one and that would put anybody off backing the home side at BoyleSports 18/5, which does look big at first glance, but with wholesale changes expected my advice to you is keep your money in your pocket.

Southampton arrive at this stage of the competition, six matches undefeated, third in the Premier League table and with recent wins over Arsenal and at Old Trafford at the weekend and just 7/4 with BoyleSports to make the Pemier League top four.

Koeman’s focus is on making the Champions League but whatever team he decides to start on Wednesday the Dutchman has proved he can set his side out to win ANY game of football.

Koeman will rest some key players that looks certain, but this Southampton squad is one that oozes quality and whoever makes the starting XI I think they will look good things to roll-over the tractor boys and at odds of 20/23 with BoyleSports to win in 90-minutes and set up a fourth round clash at home to Crystal Palace, that’ll do for me.

Six of the last eight Southampton matches has seen the games produce less than 2.5 goals and I expect this to be tight again, I also like the 4/5 with BoyleSports on that happening.

James Ward-Prowse has been Southampton’s best player in their recent revival and I think the youngster is ready to step up to the full international stage; 10/1 with BoyleSports on him showing his class in this game with the opening goal in a pretty comfortable 1-0 win which has also grabbed my attention at the BoyleSports 11/2 available.

B Lucky!
