Tony O’Donoghue Is Just Doing His Job

I think the Republic of Ireland’s group in the Nations League is a good draw and there will be a little bit of needle in the games. We certainly owe Denmark one after the 5-1 defeat in the Aviva last time out and the great result we had in Cardiff against Wales was wiped out after the heavy loss to the Danes.

Both games appeal to me, playing the Welsh home and away adds a little bit of bite to it and the fans will enjoy the 4 games especially with a trip back to Copenhagen. The supporters should be looking forward to them,

I know they’re being billed as friendlies but there are play-off spots for the Euros on the back of this tournament..

..and I think we’ve got a great chance. Overall we have to concentrate on those games, try to progress and then move on to actual qualifiers should we need them to progress.

After the draw, Martin O’Neill’s frosty relationship with Tony O’Donoghue continued, it seems to me that it’s come from what’s being said on the RTÉ panel. Because Tony is that initial interview that he needs to do post-match and Martin is by and large not happy with a few things that have been said by the lads in the studio over his time as Republic of Ireland manager.

Tony is just doing his job, Tony is there to ask the questions..

..and it’s built up over the last few months or maybe even years but I think it’s time to sort it. Maybe the people from RTÉ and the FAI need to sit down because it doesn’t reflect well on anyone, I don’t think it’s great when Martin O’Neill is coming on our national broadcaster and speaking to Tony the way he has. In the end they need to iron out their differences before next September so Irish football can move forward.
