Former Rose Maria Walsh Tipped To Be Thorn In Casey’s Side

EU Elections - Midlands NW Seats

Outright Betting

Peter Casey will fail in his bid to get elected to the European Parliament this week if the betting has called it right after a bruising night in front of the TV cameras before Friday’s election.

Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh earned the plaudits on social media after telling Casey during the TV debate on Wednesday evening to “go on Dancing With The Stars” if he wanted attention.

McHugh was subsequently backed into 20/1 from 40/1 to claim a seat but Casey is also up against it despite being a much shorter 7/4 chance to snap up one of the four seats on offer.

The Presidential runner-up claimed this week that another prime candidate for a seat, Maria Walsh, was ‘inexperienced,’

but odds-on quotes of 8/15 from 8/11 put her ahead in the race,

…with Fianna Fáil’s Brendan Smith also being given a better chance by punters at 4/6.

The 2014 Rose of Tralee is therefore the favourite to take a tight fourth seat in the constituency, with Mairead McGuinness (1/25), Luke Ming Flanagan (1/14) and Matt Carthy (1/12) all heavy odds-on shots to snap up the first three seats.
