CORK VS WATERFORD

“You hear a lot of talk about whether teams will go for it enough, but that’s a load of nonsense,” Dowling told BoyleSports. “Of course they will, it’s a National League final. Whatever players take to the field will go hell for leather to win the game.

“The two finalists have been the two most impressive teams. The beauty for Waterford is that they have been missing big names, but they’ve been playing exceptionally well and they’ve been allowed to test out their panel. So they are also leaving huge room for improvement coming into the Championship.

“Look at what John Kylie did with Kyle Hayes at Limerick – he brought him from the half-forward line back to wing-back and it worked a treat. Now Liam Cahill has done the same with Jack Fagan and he’s been exceptional all year. It’s a big test for him, but he was very good again last weekend and he is a potential man of the match for Waterford.

“Dessie Hutchinson was also on fire last weekend and one of Cork’s big concerns will be who is going to pick him up. Cork’s full-back line looked in trouble against Kilkenny and the Cats full forward line got great returns. So that is going to be something to watch out for – how will they handle the Waterford forwards?

“Kilkenny also got a huge amount of scores from their own poc-out because Cork were withdrawing and allowing their full-back line to get the ball. These will be big pointers.”
