“We haven’t seen Mayo’s full hand yet,” Connolly told BoyleSports.
“Cillian O’Connor hasn’t played many minutes, nor has Aidan O’Shea and Paddy Durcan has been in and out. They are solidifying the midfield and I think that’ll be a huge battleground on Sunday.
“The kickouts will be pivotal – can they keep possession from their own kickout and can they disrupt the Kerry kickout which has been impressive all season?
“Kerry’s midfield partnership of Diarmuid O’Connor and Jack Barry is cemented now and the midfield will be a huge match-up. But a big issue for Mayo is who will pick up David Clifford? Who can keep this man quiet?
“He has been a standout player across all the leagues, he’s been unbelievable. He’s nearly unmarkable at Croke Park given the space, but if I was James Horan, I’d be putting Paddy Durcan on him.
“He’s not your out-and-out man-marker, but he has the physicality, the pace, and the size to compete with Clifford in the air and on the ground. I don’t think Padraig O’Hora or Oisín Mullan have the same ability to do that, so that’ll be a key match-up.
“I don’t think Kerry are completely sure either on who will start at corner back and that’s where Mayo can get a lot of joy if they get the ball in there nice and early. There will be rewards for them from one-on-ones in that full-back line.
“I tipped Mayo at the start of the year and I’m sticking to my guns, I think they’ll come out on top here. I was actually impressed with them when they went down to Tralee and they were unlucky not to come away with a result. But that didn’t matter to me, the performance really stood out.”

Connolly claims Galway fielded a weakened side against Roscommon last weekend to avoid a showdown with Derry in the National League second division final.
Roscommon won the match by five points to secure promotion and tee up a rematch in the decider, but the six-time All-Ireland winner suspects it will be a different looking Tribesman outfit taking to the field at Croke Park on Sunday.
“It was a funny one last weekend,” Connolly told BoyleSports. “Galway will call it an experimental team, but it was a bit of a dud team to be honest and I don’t think they wanted to meet Derry in a league final. You’d be fearful of playing Derry at Croke Park, they have a lot of running in their legs. They are an athletic team and I don’t think Galway match up with them very well.
“The team they put out last weekend against Roscommon wasn’t their strongest and I can’t imagine Padraig Joyce is going to do the same this time, so I think you can scratch that result.
“He has Galway playing good football, it’s really direct and they get the ball in early. Damien Comer is back playing really well and Shane Walsh has been one of the standout players in the division this year, he’s been immense. So I fancy Galway now, they’ve had a great campaign.”

“I called this at the start of Division 4. Cavan are the standout team having won Ulster a couple of years ago and they really shouldn’t be sitting in this division.
“Tipperary are similar they shouldn’t be in Division 4 having won the Munster title a few years ago. These two teams shouldn’t be there and should be up in the leagues.
“The last time these sides met, Tipperary won. They went to Breffni Park and won 1-11 to 1-07. Tipperary are big odds to win at 5/2 and I fancy them to beat Cavan. They are hard to separate but I think Conor Sweeney for the Premier County is their standout player. He is their free taker and go-to guy.
“We seen him the last day in Croke Park in an All-Ireland semi-final, and he shot the lights out so can he do that again. If he can get a foothold in the game, then Tipperary will come out on top here.
“The +3 for Tipperary at Even money in the handicap is huge. There hasn’t been a high scoring game in this division, and I know Croke Park is a different animal altogether.
“There is going to a lot of space and lads are starting to get fit and Championship ready. This could be a high scoring game but the +3 for Tipperary is a huge margin to give any team in a game especially as they went to Breffni Park and beat this Cavan side by four points already.”

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Diarmuid Connolly is a six time GAA All-Ireland Football winner with Dublin. During his illustrious career he also won two All-Star awards. He retired from inter-county football in October 2020.
The 6′ 1″ forward still plays for club team, St Vincent’s, with whom he won five Dublin Senior Football Championship titles.
Connolly also won ten Leinster Senior Football Championships with St. Vincent’s as well as four National Football League titles.
He also joined the Dublin hurling panel as a dual player where he won an U21 Leinster medal.
