LIMERICK V TIPPERARY – MUNSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL

Tipperary host Limerick in the Munster Senior Football Championship this Saturday at Semple Stadium and Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly reckons it will be Limerick who will face the Kingdom in the final.
He said: “Limerick came out of Division Three and they were a little bit slow to the start in the final when Louth beat them by a couple of points. But they are into Division Two now and were the in-form team with five wins in the league.”
“Tipperary on the other hand had five wins and have gone up to Division Three from Division Four and that is not where this side should be. They won the Munster title a few years ago and were sitting down in Division Four.”
“Both are priced at even money so this is going to be a tight battle. I think Limerick will edge it though and face Kerry in the Munster SFC final this year.”
KILDARE V WESTMEATH – LEINSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL

Kildare face Westmeath in the Leinster Senior Football Championship this weekend at Croke Park and Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly fancies Kildare to book a spot in the final.
He said: “Kildare are the closest team to Dublin in this Leinster Senior Football Championship. They had a great league and were a bit unlucky not to get more results. They had a couple of one-point and two-point losses.”
“They drew with Kerry and they beat Dublin which is a huge factor in the league and a huge boost to the squad. They are just 1/5 to beat Westmeath.”
“They dispatched Louth and the Wee County had a very good league themselves this year. I’m looking at a Kildare win here and I fancy them to beat a handicap of -5 at 5/6.”
“The two guys that stood out to me all year were Jimmy Hyland and Daniel Flynn. Flynn with his power and pace, if he can stay inside and can get a ball in early one-on-one.”
“This guy can push anyone out of the way and knows where the back of the net is, so I fancy him to score the first goal. I fancy Jimmy Hyland to get the Man of the Match.”
DUBLIN V MEATH – LEINSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL

Dublin host Meath in the Leinster Senior Football Championship this weekend at Croke Park and Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly can’t see anything other than a win for his former side.
He said: “The great Paul Clarke said to me when I started my Dublin career that how you measure up against a Meath side will be the measure of your career. But Meath just haven’t been around for the last few years.”
“Maybe two or three years ago they looked like they were building something and they were coming strong, but they went back this year. They had a very disappointing league campaign from their point of view.”
“Dublin beat Wexford 1-24 to 0-4 with nine different scorers with 1-06 from Con O’Callaghan, so I’m expecting Dublin to dispatch this Meath side comfortably. Con O’Callaghan is such a level-headed guy and is humble.
“He just gets on with his work. From minute he came into that Dublin team he was a leader. Not so much in words, but he has probably found his voice in the last couple of years.”
“The way he goes about his business – he is always doing the right things. You could see the last day that Dublin are a different team with Con in the full-forward line, he is their vocal point. He gives them everything.”
“He is not selfish with the ball and will always pop off the ball. He is so intelligent. We were unlucky not to see him in the league this year, but he is going to have a big influence in this championship.”
DERRY V MONAGHAN – ULSTER SFC SEMI-FINAL

Derry face Monaghan in the Ulster Senior Football Championship this weekend at Athletic Grounds and Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly fancies Monaghan to progress to the final against Donegal.
He said: “I think Derry are coming, but I still fancy Monaghan to win here. I said at the start of the year that I think this Monaghan side have something a little different and I think they will make the Ulster final.
“We have been talking about this Derry side for the last couple of years and Rory Gallagher has worked a miracle of a job with his team. Conor Glass came back from Australia and has made a huge impact to the squad.
“They lost Ciaran McFaul to Boston for the summer and I thought that would have had a big impact the last day against Tyrone.”
“Twenty minutes into game, Derry were in control and were beating Tyrone pretty much all over the field before Tyrone got their man sent off.”
“Sometimes in Ulster when you get a man sent off, it doesn’t have that much of an influence on a game, but this Derry side blew them out of the water.”
“They put up 1-18 against the All-Ireland champions, who only scored 0-10 which is massive. But Derry are still in Division Two and that is a negative from Rory Gallagher’s point of view.”
“They were very unlucky as they had five wins and only lost one game and one draw in the league, but he won’t get those really competitive games in Division One next year.”

Diarmuid Connolly is a six time GAA All-Ireland Football winner with Dublin. During his illustrious career he also won two All-Star awards. He retired from inter-county football in October 2020.
The 6′ 1″ forward still plays for club team, St Vincent’s, with whom he won five Dublin Senior Football Championship titles.
Connolly also won ten Leinster Senior Football Championships with St. Vincent’s as well as four National Football League titles.
He also joined the Dublin hurling panel as a dual player where he won an U21 Leinster medal.
