Firstly, All-Ireland winner Shane Dowling takes a look at the action in the Leinster Hurling Senior Championship, where Galway host Kilkenny at Pearse Stadium. He spoke exclusively to Leon Blanche and thinks the Tribesmen will edge it out but expects a tough battle. Take a look below.

Galway v Kilkenny

He said: “I would love to be going to this match for the simple reason just to see Brian Cody and Henry Shefflin having their side-line battle. That is iconic no matter what way you look at it, it’s just class. It brings a hugely intriguing factor to the game, but God knows how this game is going to play out.”

“This is a very hard one to predict. I think Galway would have been very disappointed leaving Wexford with a draw and Wexford didn’t hold that form up against Dublin last weekend. Kilkenny have had two of the easiest games they are going to get this Leinster campaign so it’s hard to judge where they are at.”

“In saying that it’s grand to get out on the pitch and build the confidence, puck a few balls and next thing you are setting yourself up very nicely for the big challenges that are coming down the road. I can’t wait for this game it’s going to be a cracker.”

“Galway were really impressive against Wexford in the first half. Obviously the second half was disappointing but they got the show back on the road at the weekend so they should be set up nicely ahead of Sunday’s fixture. We will all know where both teams are at after this match.”

“From an All-Ireland perspective Kilkenny played Tipperary in a league game in Thurles earlier this year and I was disappointed with both teams. Kilkenny have a lot of personnel coming back and they have added some new personnel too.”

“They are now a serious outfit and are big contenders for the All-Ireland SHC. I’ll be able to give you my opinion about Galway after this weekend as I’m still unsure about where they are at.”

Respect for Henry Shefflin

“I’m probably contradicting myself here as I think Galway will sneak the win on Sunday. They are at home and the players will obviously have huge respect for Henry for what he has done and on top of it all he is a really nice guy. They will know deep down he will want to get one over Brian Cody. Home advantage is huge.”

Next, Shane Dowling takes a look at the action in the Munster Hurling Senior Championship, where Cork play Clare at Semple Stadium.

Cork v Clare

He said: “If you go back to the game at the Gaelic Grounds last year when you would have put your mortgage on Tony Kelly to finish off that last puck of the game nearly and it was saved so if it had gone in, Clare would of beat them.

“That will tell you how close they are. On top of that, Clare have players back this year that they didn’t have last year so all signals should tell you they will go right down to the wire.”

“In saying that, while Cork were very disappointing against Limerick there were a couple of reasons for that. One is that they couldn’t get their running game going and part of that is down to the physicality and the tactics that Limerick exploited on Cork.

“I don’t know if Clare are going to be able to do that the same way. I’m sure they are going to try but obviously Limerick are the benchmark.”

“I think both teams like going to Thurles and Cork are definitely going to try and get their running game up and going. I can’t see Kieran Kingston going away from what he has been doing all year.”

“I think it will be a very close game. Clare are coming into this after a positive result over Tipperary and Cork are coming in off the back of a disappointing defeat so they will be raring to go. It has the makings of a great game but it’s a hugely important game.”

“It’s all duck or no dinner for Cork now this Sunday and they have to put in a performance. They have come in for huge amounts of criticism on the back of the Limerick game. I would to think that will stand up and be counted at Semple Stadium and I think they will win, they have to.”
