Decent Wyndham Record Points To Snedeker

Originally known as the Greater Greensboro Open, this event has been going since 1938. It has been moved around the calendar, but these days is the final regular season tournament before the FedEx play-offs, so is the last chance for players outside the top 125 in the FedEx rankings to boost their points tallies.

Three of the last six editions of this event have been won by players from outside the United States.

The Course
The tournament has always been played in Greensboro, South Carolina, but has shifted courses, returning to its usual home at Sedgefield Country Club in 2008. This is one of the shortest tracks on the PGA Tour, so the big hitters are not at any advantage. With small, undulating greens, this is one of the easier courses on the regular circuit, and accurate players in decent putting touch should thrive.

In The Bunker
Webb Simpson won this tournament in 2011 and finished eleventh at Sedgefield last year, so it’s not surprising to see him prominent in the antepost lists this time round, but I’ll be taking him on this week. Since making the top three at the Greenbrier Classic, his form has slipped badly, with missed cuts at the British Open and at Valhalla last week, and he doesn’t appeal at 20/1.

Recommended Bets
Brandt Snedeker has missed the cut at Sedgefield twice in the last three years, which might put some punters off backing him this week, but his overall tournament record is pretty good. He won this event in 2007, when it was held at Forest Oaks, and he made the top ten at Sedgefield in 2008 and 2009.

Top fifteen finishes at the Bridgestone Invitational and at Valhalla suggest he is finding form and he’s a solid bet as antepost favourite at 12/1.

Hideki Matsuyama hasn’t followed up his debut Tour win at Memorial, but he’s been playing reasonably solid golf, and his final round 68 at Valhalla last week after finishing in the top fifteen at the Bridgestone Invitational was encouraging. He played well at Sedgefield on his tournament debut last year and as a young player with huge potential, he offers plenty of value at 20/1 this week.

The final player to add to your shortlist is South African Tim Clark. His form has been erratic this season, but it’s only two tournaments ago that he was winning the Canadian Open, after making the top five in the John Deer Classic. He struggled at the Bridgestone Invitational and missed the cut at Valhalla, but he could return to form in this less competitive tournament, at a venue where he finished sixth in 2008 and second in 2012. Back him to bag a third PGA Tour victory at odds of 28/1.
