Great Prospects For Fahey At York

The ITV cameras will be at York, Sandown and Chester this afternoon but it is on the Knavesmire where two of the best bets on Saturday will run, while in form trainer Willie McCreery is responsible for the pick of the two Irish fixtures.

Marmelo Keeping It Local
Hughie Morrison’s Marmelo won’t know himself going to the races this afternoon as the well travelled five-year-old heads to York just a few hours up the road after a few runs in France and Australia most recently.

It might be Marmelo’s first stint on home soil for a while but it is also a drop in class for the stayer in the Grand Cup Stakes and it would look a good chance for him to go back to winning ways.

Marmelo has notched up a couple of decent runs in France and wasn’t disgraced in the Caulfield Cup or Melbourne Cup during the Autumn and if he can repeat his effort behind leading stayer Vazirabad last month…

he should be able to win this listed contest today.

Fahey Has A Decent Prospect
A bit of a leap of faith is taken in the valuable Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap. Richard Fahey will saddle four of the 20 runners and it is hardly a great surprise that Paul Hanagan has opted for the recent dual winner Gabrial The Saint.

However, Fahey has booked Jamie Spencer for Great Prospector and that 20/1 shot looks overpriced if coming back to his best form.

He certainly hasn’t recaptured the pick of his juvenile efforts yet which almost saw him claim a Group 2 at the expense of Gustav Klimt, however he has been gelded this year and back in handicap company and a furlong shorter in trip can hopefully see him reproduce a good performance here.

If he does that price would look too big.

Wind Can Drive McCreery Wild
Willie McCreery’s Wild As The Wind can land the feature honours at Limerick today. The five-year-old has been lightly raced but she did win a Curragh maiden as a two-year-old and only had two runs after that last season when stepping up to Group 3 and listed company.

She certainly wasn’t disgraced at Naas in Group 3 level but again she went from April to March without a run so obviously isn’t the most straightforward.

Last time out Wild As The Wind did run well to finish second to the impressive winner Sorelle Delle Rose and that day she showed an ability to handle quick ground so that shouldn’t be a factor here.

The filly is still only rated 85 and looks to be open to more progression than many of her exposed rivals today and…

might just be up to winning a race of this nature.
