Ballymac Ariel Joint Favourite To Win BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby

The third round of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby was nothing short of sensational with Liam Dowling’s Ballymac Ariel stealing the limelight.

The daughter of Ballymac Bolger – Ballymac Cameo produced a career best at Shelbourne Park on Saturday after she blasted from trap five to take over from Explosive Boy.

It was the fastest the Liam Dowling trained bitch has ever broken from traps with a sectional of 3.36 to the first bend. She drove on to win by four lengths in 29.07 in what was one of the best performances we have seen at the Ringsend venue.

We have now trimmed this big 72lbs bitch into 11/4 from 8/1, meaning she is the joint favourite alongside Explosive Boy who has also been cut from 7/2.

Corn Cuchulainn winner Priceless Jet grabbed third and is 20/1 from 25/1 for Paul Hennessy.

There were another seven fantastic heat winners at HQ with Liam Dowling enjoying another good night as Ballymac Wild got the Co. Kerry trainer off to a flying start by landing the opener in 29.47. He got a lovely run along the rails with his outright chances clipped into 12/1 from 16/1.

Skywalker Cilla was a brilliant winner having dug deep to get her head in front come the finish line for young trainer Mark O’Donovan.

Cilla won in 29.45 with her odds trimmed into 16/1 from 33/1. She breezed by Ballymac Fairone who was 1&1/2 lengths back in second with his odds now at 16/1 from 20/1.

Deerjet Sydney took up the lead at the third bend to win in 29.75 beating Rural Star and the fast-finishing Scooby Princess.

Sydney is 14/1 from 16/1 while Rural Star is 33/1 from 40/1.

Other heat winners include All About Ted (unchanged at 14/1), Thomas Buggy’s Carrigeen North (33/1 from 40/1), Jackslittlething (unchanged at 5/1) and the little flying machine Susie Sapphire (8/1 from 14/1).
