BoyleSports Present €1,600 To Irish Retired Greyhound Trust

On what was one of the best Derby finals we have seen over the years, it was fitting that Ian Fortune landed his charity bet, raising €1,600 for the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust.

This year’s BoyleSports Derby Plate was renamed the ‘Michael Fortune Memorial Plate’ in Michael’s honour following his passing in July leaving his family, friends and the whole greyhound industry in mourning.

The final of the 2019 BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby on September 21st was a huge success with Lenson Bocko landing the spoils to give trainer Graham Holland a second victory in the race.

Charity bets were issued to some members of the media and top pundit and commentator Ian Fortune placed his €100 bet on Lenson Bocko at 16/1. The proceeds raised of €1,600 were presented to Ian Fortune by the Head of Communications at BoyleSports, Leon Blanche at Shelbourne Park on Monday morning.

Deputy IGB CEO Philip Peake and Brenda Powderly of IRGT were also at the presentation along with our canine friends Hector and Brandy.

The Irish Retired Greyhound Trust (IRGT), operated and established by IGB, re-homes greyhounds after retirement and promotes them as domestic pets. Over 1,000 retired greyhounds were rehomed via IRGT assistance in 2018. The IRGT financially supports many private rehoming organisations across Ireland and further afield.
