Deerjet Sydney On Track To Land Select Stakes For Team Buckley

2020 English Greyhound Derby champion Deerjet Sydney is the strong favourite to add the 2021 Select Stakes to his impressive CV with the final taking place on Tuesday night at Kilcohan Park.

Trained by Pat Buckley, who last won the Select Stakes back in 2008 with Slip The Lark, the talented Deerjet Sydney remains unbeaten is this competition with 28.69 and 28.18 clocked in the opening two rounds.

Sydney has been lightly raced since his emphatic win across the pond and is 10/11 favourite to land another big title wearing the red jacket.

Graham Holland won this race last year with Blue East and he can follow that up with another win if Native Maestro is up to the task from trap five.

This son of Sparta Maestro – Bubbly Madeva, made the Kingdom Derby final last year and was unlucky to be knocked out of the Easter Cup in the second round. He has taken to Kilcohan Park well having clocked 28.30 in the semi-final and is 7/2 to win his first big competition.

The 2020 Juvenile Derby hero Skywalker Barry is also 7/2 to give his trainer Mark O’Donovan a first win in the race. He was outpaced by Deerjet Sydney in the semi-finals on the home straight so it’s hard to see the form reversed unless there is trouble in behind as Barry could set the pace again.

Talented sprinter Skylight Blake for trainer Nicholas Walsh will have a busy week as not only is he in the Select Stakes final but he is also running in the Greyhound & Petworld Supersprint at Curraheen Park on Saturday night and is 8/1 to win.

The Robert Gleeson trained Toolmaker Sydney made the semi-finals of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound last year and is known for his strong finish with his odds also at 8/1 while Catchmeflying is the 20/1 outsider for Thomas Buggy.
