Grangeview Ten Sprints To The Top To Become Gold Cup Favourite

The second round of the Best Car Parks Gold Cup saw four stunning performances at Shelbourne Park last Saturday with the top prize of €20,000 now favouring the 2019 Produce Stakes winner Grangeview Ten.

We have trimmed the Patrick Guilfoyle trained star into 2/1 from 5/1 meaning he is the new ante post favourite to land the first major event of 2020.

It’s no surprise to see punters showing strong support for this son of Zero Ten and Portumna West following his stunning victory last weekend to clock a beautiful 28.20 from a horrible draw in trap five.

He overcame the 4/5 favourite Run Happy by three lengths at a price of 9/4 and now heads the betting to go all the way in this competition with his exceptional early pace sure to see him go very close.

He is perfectly drawn in trap two in the first semi-final with his kennel buddy and defending champion Music Toour Ears (16/1) in trap one.

Owen McKenna has two runners, one in each heat, and it looks as though he will get at least one of them through to the final on Saturday week. Malachi is 12/1 ante post to win the Gold Cup and wearing the stripes this weekend will suit him down to the ground in the same heat as Grangeview Ten. Malachi is still very young so plenty of progression is expected having caught the eye over the last number of weeks.

McKenna’s other runner in the second semi-final is Pestana, another young star for his kennel to look forward to. This son of Ballymac Best and Coolavanny Pet has won four of eight starts with 28.31 already on his card. Just like his kennel companion, Pestana races from trap six but has it all to do from a tough draw and is 40/1, but with some luck he could qualify.

Run Happy didn’t start on terms last week which is rare but he showed his incredible boot of pace to finish second to Grangeview Ten. Run Happy is the 5/2 ante post favourite and while he has every chance of qualifying and making the final from trap one, it’s Ballymac Anton in trap two who is the one to beat.

Anton is 5/1 in the outright betting which is a huge price for the 2019 St. Leger winner who has returned to his best form, clocking 28.15 in the second round.

It’s an incredible heat with Night of Stars winner BoyleSports Xtra in trap five priced at 6/1 in the outright. He has it all to do as he prefers an inside draw, however his electric early pace should see him qualify.
