Jackslittlething Makes Big Impression For BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby

Spectators were treated to 25 scintillating heats in the opening round of the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby last weekend, but it was the Graham Holland trained Jackslittlething who impressed the most.

The son of Droopys Sydney – Limini was paw-perfect wearing the black jacket on Saturday as he skipped round HQ in the fastest time of this year’s renewal so far in 29.10.

It’s easy to see why his odds have tumbled into 6/1 from 20/1, meaning he is now second favourite just behind Explosive Boy.

There were a large number of movers following the opening round, but one to note is Shelbourne 600 winner Ballymac Wild, who has shortened into 16/1 from 25/1. The Liam Dowling trained superstar held off Boylesports King by six lengths in 29.66 as both sets their sights on reaching another Derby final.

Patrick Guilfoyle’s Explosive Boy lived up to expectations as he scooted round in 29.47 with his chances clipped into 11/2 from 6/1. He remains the shortest ever antepost favourite heading into the second round.

Ballymac Fairone was extremely impressive in heat 7, winning in 29.67 and beating Corn Cuchulainn winner Priceless Jet by ¾ of a length. His odds have gone into 25/1 from 33/1, while kennel buddy Ballymac Ariel was also cut into 12/1 from 16/1 following her 29.50 win in the following heat.

Pennylane Sheba landed the finale on Friday night in 29.53 which resulted in her odds getting clipped into 50/1 from 100/1.

As well as Jackslittlething on Saturday night, the 2020 Sporting Press Oaks winner Ballymac Beanie was sublime from trap two with her chances cut into 33/1 from 50/1.

BoyleSports Champion Plate finalist Amidus Luke dug deep to win heat 17 in 29.63 and he is now 40/1 from 100/1. Other heat winners to see their odds clipped include Jacob Tashadelek (20/1 from 50/1), Macho Pride (33/1 from 100/1) and Mallogs Marley (50/1 from 66/1).
